About the Company

MAX facilitates artist-brand partnerships by providing tools that help over 7,000 artists understand and connect with their fans. The platform captures fan data and makes it available to brands, enabling marketers to identify artists with aligned audiences and leverage the emotional connection between artists and their fans. This approach turns fan engagement into measurable brand results.

My Story

I joined MAX as a frontend engineer early in the company's Series A stage, when the engineering team consisted of just three people. With no dedicated UI/UX designer, I took on design responsibilities, creating interfaces in Sketch and Figma, collaborating with product and executive leadership for feedback, and implementing the designs in React using my own custom React architecture. I also developed end-to-end tests using Puppeteer to ensure quality with limited QA resources.

MAX Admin Interface

The MAX Admin Interface is a comprehensive data management platform that aggregates information from artists and brands to facilitate campaign matching and progress tracking. The system serves C-level executives, product managers, our external clients (such as Ford, Coors Light, Canon & more), as well as artists and their teams who use it to manage campaigns and data. I was responsible for the complete UI/UX design and frontend development of this complex system, which includes multiple pages, features, data visualization using Chart.js, and responsive design across all components.

Unfortunately I'm not at liberty to share the designs of the admin interface, as it was a proprietary internal tool.

Retrospective

If I were to rebuild this project today, I would prioritize writing more comprehensive tests (unfortunately playwright had not been released yet) and incorporate TypeScript from the start of the project to improve type safety and developer experience.

Campaign Websites

Campaign Websites are custom-built sites that showcase brands and products in partnership with featured artists. I was responsible for developing these websites based on designs provided by client design teams. The sites typically included animated transitions, interactive elements, and lead capture forms for email signups and phone number collection.

Retrospective

If I were to rebuild this project today, I would implement CI/CD infrastructure and deployment automation to optimize the development workflow. I would also publish a modular component library through a reusable npm package, standardizing shared UI components across projects rather than building each custom website from scratch. This approach would accelerate development velocity and improve scalability, reducing technical debt as sites were typically deprecated after campaigns ended.
