About the Company

Symphony is a comprehensive suite of tools designed for music artists, management teams, and labels. The platform's core offering includes AI-augmented campaign and ad creation, enabling artists to build and manage effective music marketing strategies. Beyond advertising, Symphony provides email marketing tools, analytics dashboards, a website builder, proprietary music presaves, and collaborative team planning features.

My Story

I started contracting for Symphony as a full-stack engineer in the summer of 2023. I was tasked with triaging and resolving full-stack issues guided by Sentry, building internal tools, and refining product reliability and design. My background in the music industry was invaluable in understanding the needs of the product and the users and quickly the CEO and I were in sync with the product direction.

After a year of contracting, I was brought on as the official CTO tasked with getting Symphony out of beta and into production. I assumed ownership of day-to-day technical execution, freeing the CEO to focus on business operations. I refactored 100,000+ lines of code across 1,000+ files to eliminate technical debt, resolving hundreds of legacy bugs and stabilizing the codebase in the process.

The Campaign Builder is a powerful tool that allows artists to create and manage their music campaigns. It includes a drag-and-drop interface for building campaigns, a library of templates and presets, and a set of tools for creating and managing campaigns.

Retrospective

I'm particularly satisfied with the architectural improvements I implemented for this project. By applying object-oriented programming principles to abstract the campaign builder, I created a scalable architecture that supports all 12 campaign types while enabling rapid extensibility. This refactoring dramatically reduced development time, where adding a new campaign type used to take weeks, now only takes hours.
